Introduction to Gladiator System Compatible Multilayer

BARBI GLADIATOR System is made up of a revolutionary range of multilayer pipes (PEX + Aluminium) of the latest generation specially adapted to all the specific needs of our market and compatible with all BARBI fittings normally used for the connection of Cross-Linked Polyethylene Pipes.

BARBI GLADIATOR pipes consist of a multilayer pipe whose inside layer is a Cross-Linked Polyethylene Pipe manufactured according to the European Regulation EN 12318. That is, it´s a standard Cross-Linked Polyethylene Pipe to which an aluminium layer butt welded by laser is added and an outside layer of high density of polyethylene serves as a protection against mechanic wear and tear as well as corrosion.

*New European Regulation prEN 12318: The new European Regulation for the cross-linked polyethylene pipes, for immediate application in Spain, modifies the thickness of the 16 mm. Pipe from the Serie 5 to 1,5 mm.

The following regression curves show the resistance of BARBI GLADIATOR pipes, mentioned in Kg/cm2, for the desired useful life and for the temperature of the fluid that flows through them.

As can be seen GLADIATOR pipes are able to offer exceptional features. Their resistance to high pressure is 12 KG/cm2 at 95ºC and through a lifespan in excess of 25 years, in better conditions to the ones required by the most strictest international regulations.

BARBI GLADIATOR pipes are manufactured using the most available up-to-date Swiss technology for the manufacture of multilayer pipes, technology that comes from the optical fibre industry.

Complex extrusion lines of more than 80 meters long made up of 4 plastic extruders and of a sophisticated equipment of material conformed and aluminium weld.

We should highlight that BARBI GLADIATOR pipes are manufactured using a butt welded that contributes very superior features, of resistance to pressure and bending possibilities , in comparison with other technologies in which aluminium is overlapped and simply welded by ultrasound.

The manufacturing system applied, guarantees absolute quality ,because it is based on completely synchronized extrusion lines and with the most sophisticated quality control points on the production line.

- Gravimetric doser . Avoid density fluctuation of the raw material affecting the right dosage of the materials that make up each of the layers of BARBI GLADIATOR pipes.
- Barrier screw. They only allow the material to move forward the extruder to the head when it is perfectly processed.
- Control of the diameter of each layer by laser beam.
- Control of the thickness of each layer by ultrasound.
- Control of the faults of the surface by a video camera system.

WARNING:

It´s very important not to use BARBI fittings with pipes that are not BARBI GLADIATOR. During the development of BARBI GLADIATOR System a very special pipe is used, consisting of aluminium welded to maximum and to a great thickness of the inside Cross-Linked Polyethylene layer which allows its expansion with an absolute guarantee of hermetic sealing . Furthermore the thicknesses have been studied to guarantee the optimal flow and pipe and joint have been developed together so that with their dimensions, the necessary compression strength is done so as to guarantee hermetic sealing connections during all its useful life and even in the hardest work conditions. That´s why we earnestly ask, and to avoid any kind of problem, not to try to emulate BARBI GLADIATOR SYSTEM with materials apparently similar.

BARBI GLADIATOR System requires the replacement of the traditional BARBI rings with the new BARBI GLADIATOR rings. BARBI GLADIATOR rings have dimensions and a shape to guarantee the most absolute hermetic sealing through their lifespan.

The shape of our BARBI GLADIATOR rings can be observed in the photograph:

NOTE: BARBI GLADIATOR rings have a compulsory entry direction. The ring must be introduced in the pipe through the extreme that has the chamfering so that the end joint fits.

BARBI GLADIATOR rings have been designed thanks to our experience of more than 18 years developing fittings for plastic pipes that transport fluid at high temperatures.

The process followed during the development offers you a total guarantee of hermetic sealing.

The first step in the development consist of the design of some preliminary plans with which experimental prototypes are manufactured. Those prototypes are tested in a laboratory facility which carries out an experiment called temperature cycles that consist in subjecting the joint to 1.000 cycles in which there has been an abrupt change in temperature from hot to cold water. (In accordance with the American norm ASTM f 877-89). With these changes in temperature we test that the joint is totally hermetic after many contractions and dilations of the pipe, representing the effort to which a joint would be subjected after 50 years of use.

Once this test has been successfully carried out, we proceed to the approval of the design and to the mass production of BARBI GLADIATOR Rings.

WARNING: That is why we recommend that to avoid later complicated situations don´t accept copies or substitutes which don´t offer any kind of warranty. You shouldn´t mix BARBI with other materials supplied by other manufacturers although ,they may, in appearance, be similar.
